A home becomes an unmarked ruler
The film never delegates growth to captions or dates. A hand, slippers, a bed, a chair, and a doorway take turns as measuring devices. The kitten is first enclosed by a palm and oversized objects; later, the adult body crosses the bed, fills the chair, and settles into a broad horizontal at the threshold. Similar rooms and changing ratios create visual rhyme.
Subjects sit low while pale paper occupies much of each frame. This negative space is both the reserved white of ink painting and a room thinned by memory. In the final portrait, eyes sit near the upper third and the lifted tail becomes an ascending last stroke: the viewer is no longer only watching, but being looked back at.
A warm-grey analogous harmony
Paper ivory, smoke grey, and dense ink create a narrow-hue, low-saturation scheme. Colour does not compete for attention; value carries the narrative. Pale paper makes time distant, middle grey preserves furniture and fur, and the darkest marks gather around eyes, ear edges, and overlapping contours.
The theory is value contrast, not hue contrast: roughly 70% light field, 25% middle values, and 5% dark anchors. Vermilion below 2% behaves like an emotional pause; scarcity makes it precious.
Softness absorbed into paper
Ambient light is compressed into diffused greys. Highlights stop short of pure white and shadows retain detail. Grain passes through fur and background, making illumination feel embedded in the fibres. Intimacy comes from a shared luminosity across hand, sheet, chair, and coat—not from an announced expression.
Evidence becomes remembered marks
Production facts: Eight family photographs were converted into consistent warm-paper ink-wash masters. Subject count, age, markings, pose, gaze, physical contact, and principal scale were retained. Motion was designed at eight discrete states per second, each held for three frames in a 24 fps, 4,320-frame master. Room tone, paper friction, and sparse synthetic bells form the original soundtrack; no pre-existing music is used.
Photography says “this happened”; ink says “this is being remembered.” Bleeding edges let the background withdraw, while stop-motion hesitation breaks four smooth years into moments the film is reluctant to release.

My reading: at first, the home seems enormous and a hand functions as shelter. Later, the body grows while chair and doorway become intimate. Nothing in the room needs to move for time to rewrite its meaning. Caring for a life quietly changes how space is seen.
Technology placed behind lived time
Fact: Daily Art made the film from private family images created between 2022 and 2026, using generative ink-wash transformation, frame-by-frame compositing, and original procedural sound. It uses neither public-source imagery nor pre-existing music. Its purpose is to give four years of domestic time one coherent visual language.
